ADVERTISING PLATE LIP CIRCA 1970

120,00 €

Emmanuel Isaac Lipmann was born in Neuf Brisach in 1844. He came from a Jewish family of Alsatian clockmakers and his father was a clockmaker. In 1867, Emmanuel founded a watchmaking workshop. The business grew rapidly thanks to the founder's hard work, his innovative vision of aesthetics and his strong will. In October 1868, he married Caroline Geismar. They will have 3 children: Ernest, the technician, and Camille, who takes over a new factory, will effectively participate in the expansion of the family business. Jenny, less involved, was for a while in charge of the administration. In the course of his career, Ernest Lipmann asked Pierre and Marie Curie to find a material that could tell time in the dark. They will discover radium in 1898 and, at the same time, will invent for Lip the first phosphorescent dials. Emmanuel Lipmann died in 1913.

Frédéric Samuel Lipmann, grandson of Emmanuel and son of Ernest, was born in Besançon on November 2, 1905. After a chaotic education in Paris, he failed the baccalauréat exam in 1922. His father then took him back to the family cradle and placed him at the Besançon watchmaking school. After completing his military service, he left for the United States in 1928 for a study trip, where he visited watchmaking factories and assembly plants for Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles. This trip and his passion for motor sport were to influence his vision and methods. In August 1931, he joined the family business. A "genius" to some, a "madman" to others, "Fred" turned traditions on their head. Under his leadership, Lip Sa innovated and became the leading watchmaker in France. 1954 marked the company's peak, with 1,500 employees, 300,000 watches a year and, in 1960, the Palente factory. But Fred Lip was unable to adapt to the rapidly changing watch market with the arrival of quartz, and in February 1971, he passed away. He died in Paris on November 9, 1996.

Presentation here of a very nice acrylic panel with the typical logo of the brand with three letters.

It seems to date from the 1960s/70s and must have been used as a display in the window of a dealer of the brand.

It is in pretty good condition and the colors are fresh. It is a nice decoration item for the fans of the brand. Rare.
