CERTINA "MYSTERY" WATCH CIRCA 1970

In 1888, the brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth set up their own watch production facility in the Swiss town of Grenchen. In this idyllic setting, at the foot of the Jura Mountains between Solothurn and Biel, the two brothers and their three employees worked in an annex to the family home. Their business quickly proved to be successful. In the following years, they undertook several expansions and hired new staff.

In 1906, the Kurth brothers launched a brand for their own watches: "Grana", short for "Granacus", the Latin name for Grenchen. The quality of these timepieces was immediately acclaimed, earning them several awards. In the 1920s, Erwin and Hans, Alfred Kurth's sons, join the company and lead it through the global economic crisis.

During the 1930s, the company increasingly used the name Certina, and for good reason: it is easy to pronounce in any language and comes from the Latin word "certus", which means "trustworthy". The brand name was officially registered in 1939, and in 1949 it became the sole brand name.

Very original and rare case for this Certina watch dating from the 1970s.

In fact, an ingenious system allows the usual handles to be removed, leaving the dial free of any support. The bracelet support is beautifully detailed with tapered ends.

The case is gold-plated, with a scalloped effect around the perimeter. The dial is in the same gold tone as the case, with simple indexes and black vertical and horizontal lines. The stainless steel caseback bears serial number 4006 133 / 5680246.

This model is equipped with a hand-wound mechanical mechanism, caliber KF 23-30, Swiss-made.

The crown is embossed with the Certina logo. New bracelet in smooth navy blue leather.

The set is in very clean condition. This is a superb piece, very elegant to wear and rare.
