RARE SARCAR GENEVA WATCH PENDANT, SOLID SILVER, CA. 1972
1 200,00 €
A rare and certainly one-of-a-kind piece signed by Sarcar Genève, made of 925/1000 sterling silver and dating from the 1970s.
This Sarcar pendant or bag charm, crafted in sterling silver, stands out for its distinctly organic case design, where the material expresses itself with both strength and subtlety. The case, which fully embodies the 1970s aesthetic—at the intersection of watchmaking, jewelry, and design—features soft curves and a sculptural approach to form, and is hallmarked with the traditional Swiss silver hallmark: the gentian flower. The “Forçat”-style chain is also made of solid silver and hallmarked with Sarcar’s “S” and the “925” notation indicating its silver content.
The three-dimensional, sculpted, and chiseled dial is reminiscent of a delicate leaf. This unique feature enhances the pendant’s exceptional character, making it a rare piece, rich in identity and personality—more akin to a work of art than to mass-produced merchandise.
In 1972, a similar model received a special award for the most beautiful watch with a gemstone dial at the “Rose d’Or” International Competition in Baden-Baden, the ultimate symbol of the aesthetic revolution of the 1970s. While the watchmaking world traditionally measured its success down to the second through chronometric accuracy competitions, this unique German event took a different approach, judging timepieces on an entirely different basis: that of pure art, boldness, and design.
Held in the sumptuous setting of the famous spa town of Baden-Baden, this annual competition established itself as the arbiter of contemporary trends. It brought together an elite jury of artists, designers, art critics, and fashion experts. Their task was to evaluate the creations submitted by the world’s leading manufacturers based on strictly aesthetic criteria.
Winning the “Rose d’Or” represented the ultimate commercial and artistic accolade. The competition pushed brands to push their boundaries and create provocative, conceptual pieces. It was here that designs were born that would define the style of the 1970s, such as the famous Mimosa, Galaxie, and Stardust models from the Swiss watchmaker Baume & Mercier.
