RARE TISSOT WATCH DESIGNED BY PEKKA PIEKÄINEN, CA. 1970

550,00 €

This women's wristwatch is a rare model from the Tissot Boutique collection, designed in the early 1970s by Finnish designer Pekka Piekäinen.

Pekka Piekäinen (1945–2004) was a renowned Finnish goldsmith and designer who collaborated with Tissot in the early 1970s to create a line of avant-garde jewelry watches.

In the early 1970s, Tissot sought to break with traditional watchmaking conventions by enlisting external designers. Pekka Piekäinen, then chief designer at Auran Kultaseppä in Finland, was invited to design models for Tissot (and also for Omega). His approach was to treat the watch as a sculpture. The most famous models from this collaboration are the “cuff” watches, which feature asymmetrical cases set within silver or steel structures, often complemented by acrylic glass or colored Lucite.

Piekäinen has designed jewelry for Princess Diana, among others, and is reportedly the only Scandinavian designer whose creations have been sold at Tiffany's.

A true icon of Space Age style, this piece stands out for its bold, futuristic aesthetic. It features a wide, rigid bracelet in brushed stainless steel with an ergonomic shape, into which an asymmetrical structure in translucent blue Lucite is integrated. The circular white dial features a minimalist display with slender dark hands and the Tissot signature at 12 o’clock. The contrast between the industrial metal and the colored resin is characteristic of the experimental design of that era.

This piece is all the more exceptional because it still bears its original label, a testament to its remarkable condition. Only the original glass shows a few tiny internal cracks. It is an accessory that straddles the line between Swiss precision watchmaking and avant-garde designer jewelry.
