ERNEST BOREL ADVERTISING SIGN, CA. 1950

The renowned Ernest Borel brand needs no introduction, nor does the Huguenin brand—two icons of the watchmaking industry.

Here is a beautiful advertising sign made of heavy metal with copper lettering, which was intended for official Ernest Borel dealers.

The dial features Ernest Borel’s “dancing couple,” the historic emblem of the Swiss watch brand Ernest Borel.

The logo depicts a man and a woman dancing together in late 19th-century attire. The company adopted this image around 1898 under the leadership of Ernest Borel and has become the brand’s symbol. According to company tradition, this motif evokes romance, elegance, and love.

This plaque is signed by Huguenin Frères and was manufactured in Le Locle, Switzerland.

The Huguenin et Frères company manufactured various articles for the watchmaking industry, in particular cases for Omega, Eberhard & Co and Universal Genève. From this last collaboration was born the Polerouter, one of the original features of which is its "turned" handles, also known as "faceted lyre handles".

It appears to date from the 1950s or 1960s and was likely displayed in the window of a high-end retailer for the brand in Italy or possibly in Italian-speaking Switzerland.

It is in quite good condition and its quality is remarkable. It is a very beautiful object of decoration for the unconditional fans of the brand. Very rare.
