LONGINES STERLING SILVER "BRUTALIST" PENDANT, CA. 1970

ON HOLD

Rare and certainly unique Longines pendant in solid 925/1000 silver dating from the 1970s.

This Longines pendant in sterling silver stands out with its bold, brutalist-style case, where the material expresses itself with strength and subtlety. The silver has a predominantly matte gray, almost mineral appearance, contrasted by brighter areas that capture the light, as well as yellowish hues, natural traces of time and metalworking. This interplay of finishes creates visual depth and gives the piece a unique presence.

The case is fully in line with the brutalist aesthetic, favoring powerful volumes, clean lines, and a sculptural approach to form. The irregular surfaces, far from being concealed, are embraced as an aesthetic language in their own right. The whole evokes a miniature, raw, and expressive architecture, where silver becomes both a building material and an ornament.

This pendant also echoes the Longines style of the 1970s aimed at the American market, a period during which the brand explored more daring and experimental designs. Influenced by industrial design and modernist architecture, these pieces were characterized by striking proportions and contrasting surface treatments, responding to an American sensibility for strong and distinctive objects. This pendant is fully in keeping with this 1970s spirit, at the crossroads of watchmaking, jewelry, and design.

Finally, the artisanal aspect of the case, the variations in texture, patina, and color suggest that this could be a one-of-a-kind piece or one produced in a very small series. Each irregularity seems intentional, each surface contrast tells a story of human intervention rather than a standardized industrial process. This uniqueness reinforces the exceptional character of the pendant, making it a rare object, full of identity and personality, closer to a work of art than mass-produced merchandise.
