MOVADO "ROMAN NUMERALS" WATCH, CA. 1960

240,00 €

Movado’s women’s watches in the 1960s embodied a perfect balance between the creative boldness of the era and the excellence of Swiss craftsmanship. During this decade, marked by women’s empowerment and a fashion revival, the women’s watch transcended its primary function of measuring time to become a true piece of fine jewelry.

These timepieces stand out for their uniquely shaped cases, such as this oval-shaped model. It was also during this period that the revolutionary design of the Museum Watch—created by Nathan George Horwitt, with its minimalist dial featuring a single dot at 12 o’clock—established itself as an absolute icon of the brand and of modern design.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the brand’s true achievement lies in the exceptional miniaturization of its hand-wound mechanical movements. Movado’s watchmakers have succeeded in housing high-precision calibers within exceptionally slim cases, perfectly meeting the demands for elegance and lightness characteristic of women’s jewelry.

A prime example is this mid-1960s model—a women’s watch with very soft lines and a high-quality 40-micron plating, all enhanced by a black dial with Roman numerals on a gold-colored background. Chic and unpretentious.
