BULOVA "LONGCHAMP" LAPIS LAZULI WATCH, 1971

This elegant Bulova Longchamp “Ellipse” model, dated 1971, stands out for its vertical, oval-shaped case in brushed steel and, above all, for its remarkable dial made of natural lapis lazuli, whose variations in color and inclusions make each piece unique. The Longchamp collection exemplifies Bulova’s Swiss production in the late 1960s and early 1970s, featuring bold designs and the use of decorative materials characteristic of that period. This piece is presented with its original light gray suede strap and its signed crown.
Its hand-wound mechanical movement features a design very similar to that of the small Universal Genève 42 / 1-42 calibers. In fact, the Bulova 8EA is listed as corresponding to the Universal Genève 42, which explains this striking similarity. This connection is particularly interesting in its historical context: Bulova took control of Universal Genève in the mid-1960s, fostering industrial and technical ties between the two companies.
Another point of similarity with Universal Genève: the case back bears the inscription “F.P.,” the initials of Favre & Perret, a Swiss case manufacturer that worked notably for Universal Genève and Bulova during those years. A distinctive timepiece from the 1970s.
